Honeysuckle, intoxicating by smell and enchanting by taste, entices, intrigues, and invites. Through this work, viewers are welcomed to join my journey as I explore the complexities of being the only girl among three brothers, navigating societal structures shaped by a religious and masculine lens. As women, we are taught how to think, act, and feel, often suppressing our divinity.  The suppression of feminine divinity strokes an ego like a quarrel between translucent and opaque brushstrokes .

Honeysuckle embodies vulnerability, confidence, seduction, class, and a hint of messiness. Nude in my natural habitat—the kitchen—I am depicted performing ordinary motherly tasks in an extravagant kimono. My legs and arms weave in and out of existence, sometimes seen and sometimes unseen, reflecting my daily experience. As a backbone of society, I am hidden in a lush jungle of floral patterns, seeking to evoke a spiritual connection to the rhythmic pulse that sustains us, while channeling my matriarchal ancestry. Honeysuckle aims to find comfort within one’s own skin, uniting the energies of motherhood, sexuality, and spirituality.
